Last week Marbella FC presented a new football stadium for the Marbella city council. Many leading members and politicians from Marbella's society attended the event, including club sponsors and representatives of the Spanish and Andalusian government.
The current design shows that the new stadium will house 18,000 spectators, 2,000 underground parking spaces, a 1,000 m2 presidential box, and a 4,600 m2 VIP area. In addition to a fully retractable roof covering the field, the stadium will offer a shopping mall and a hotel, with an eye-catching infinity pool.
This massive project is only at the beginning, and most information remains to be revealed, such as the construction start and what deadlines to expect. However, two critical factors are yet to be determined. Who will invest, and will the city council grant building permits? According to Marbella's mayor, Ángeles Muñoz, this project's realization is unlikely to come easy.
Under the presentation, the Best of You CEO, Óscar Ribot, recalled how he in November 2018 recognized that having a new stadium should become a "top priority" for Marbella. Now that the project starts to become a reality, Ribot believes the new stadium will be as significant to Marbella as Puerto Banús. "This stadium will revalue our community and ensure sustainability", he said, indicating that the new stadium will become a city jewel. "Now it's up to the Marbella town council and the political parties to act", he concluded.
Ángeles Muñoz indicated that it is an excellent project for Marbella. The football club has been fearless with the presentation time, referring to the club's elimination in the promotion playoffs. Muñoz described the new stadium as symbolic and has highlighted the seriousness of this initiative that will now enter the administrative pathway, but not without obstacles. However, she added that this project has been prepared by leading architects and wants everyone to share it with the world.
Marbella's sports councilor, Manuel Cardeña, said that Marbella's current collaborating political parties are favorable to the idea, hoping they will go ahead with the project. He stated - "We should have a stadium at the height of Marbella".
